BLOG: Let the Real Debate Begin

Let's start a real debate on the issues of the day without the spin from the candidates or the media.

Are you like me getting sick of the way politics is covered in the media? Are you finding it harder and harder to figure out what a candidate stands for or to figure out what the facts are on a certain issue? Personally, I have had enough of media sound bites, candidates saying what the other person did wrong and that they should fix it but never telling us how they are going to fix it. I am tired of the media telling us which candidates we should vote for and never telling us why. I am tired of voters being uneducated and falling for the media darling candidate and having that person get elected even though they’re not qualified for the job.

Well, this blog is going to try and change that. I had an idea and thanks to Patch I get to try it. My idea was very simple: Find some people not associated with a campaign and have them tell us how they stand on an issue and find out why they would choose to vote one way or another. My hope would be that with each posting we could get one Democrat, one Republican and one Independent and have an honest debate on the most pressing issues of the day. I feel like if we can do this it will help everyone make a more informed decision when going to vote.

My hope would be to look at issues both locally and nationally. Talk about not only the important races (President, Senate, House of Representatives) but also talk about the upcoming ballot questions. But to do this I need your help. I need volunteers that would be willing to be the voices on these issues and are willing to have a strong debate on them.

The upcoming election may be one of the most important we face in our lifetimes and I feel it very important that we educate people not through soundbites but through real debate.

Is anyone out there willing to help me? Please let me know.

Just as a side note: I have to admit that I have been guilty in the past of falling into the bad side of the debate to vigorously defend a candidate or idea that I support.
