PROM! Style Tips for the Big Night

Since prom is often considered the most important event in the life of every teenage girl, looking and feeling her best is imperative. Read how you can make sure she has the perfect prom hair.

Since prom is often considered the most important event in the life of every teenage girl, looking and feeling her best is imperative. First, it's finding the perfect dress. Check. Getting the perfect hair is next, and that's where we can help.

Have her do some research online and in magazines to find hairstyles that she likes. "Inspiration styles," we'll call them. Make sure her inspiration styles are realistic, meaning that the hair type and length is similar to her own. Clip in hair extensions can be used to add length and volume, but fine hair can not be made into thick hair. Ask your salon about a trial session prior to the event if you and your girl are disagreeing or unsure of what to do. This is the best way to ensure you both get exactly what you are looking for.

All accessories are meant to showcase her dream dress, and hair is most certainly accessory numero uno. First, consider the style of the dress. Is it soft and flowy? Full of bling? A bit more rock & roll? Solid? Patterned? The hair style needs to complement the dress style. Discard inspiration styles that don't work. If you are getting her hair done by a pro, make sure to have a picture of the dress or her in the dress along with the inspiration styles to help the stylist create the perfect look.

The dress' neckline is also something important to consider. Strapless and spaghetti strapped dresses look great with just about every style (curled and all down, partially or half up, all up, side swept, etc) because the shoulder and neck area are so open. A halter-style or high neckline will be showcased best with an updo that keeps the hair off the shoulders and neck. Thick strapped and sleeved dresses also most often look best with updos so the shoulder area is not so visually heavy. One shouldered dresses are stylish and fun with the hair swept to the open side.

The hair should never be washed the day of the event. It will be too silky and not hold a style nearly as well as slightly dirty hair. Go to the salon with her hair fully dry and down. Make sure you have any jewels, flowers, or extensions with you.

Lastly, speak up. A stylist wants nothing more than to create dream hair. Keep the conversation open to ensure he/she is able to give her exactly what is going to make her night complete.
