Shooting Photos: What Gear to Bring

Trying to cut down on gear.

As a photographer, even as an amateur photographer, you are faced with countless decisions along the way to the final shot.

One of those decisions: What to bring with you.

For the past year or so I've been bringing all of my gear with me, because I figure you'll never know when you're going to need it.

It also hasn't been easy to carry it around and so, I've decided for my next photoventure, that I was going to carry less. Two lenses will be going with me, my flash, and my tripod. That's it, I don't want to carry more than that.

Another thing has been my pretty consistent sore neck, because of my camera's weight and the strap that tethers it to me.

So, I've dipped into my little bit of savings and bought myself a Blackrapid RS-7 strap. It's very easy to set up and I took it out for a test run today and will be going out with it tomorrow to shoot locally.

The above shot is probably the last one I'll be putting up from the Rockport series and is easily one of my favorites. I came across this tree, as we were walking towards a bridge that I was interested in, but once we got there, it wasn't much of a photo op.

Backtracking, I knew that the tree was something that had to be shot. So, I set up my tripod and started to get working. About forty-five minutes later the shot was composed and done with.

I'm happy with it and I really think it was one of those photos that came out exactly the way I had envisioned.

Next up for me: A walk around the town of Melrose to photograph "community" and then in June a trip to Georges Island off of Boston MA.

Last, but not least: The Millennium Falcon is project is up and running. If you're interested in hosting the Millennium Falcon, shoot me an email at: thevisualgeek@yahoo.com

I'll be posting the write up and the photos from that soon.

I hope that everyone is having a a great weekend!
