Simply Smooth®: Straightening Your Hair the Safer Way

Many semi-permanent hair straightening options have come onto the market but have been scrutinized for their toxic, potentially harmful chemical compositions. We found the good guy among all the bad.

Over the past decade many semi-permanent hair straightening options have come onto the market. However, many of them have been scrutinized for their toxic, potentially harmful chemical compositions.

The most controversial ingredient found in nearly all straightening treatments is formaldehyde. "Why is the stuff that preserves dead things used in a hair treatment?!," you ask? The non-scientific answer is that it makes it work better. And since the FDA regulations for cosmetic and hair products are still fairly lax, manufacturers don't have to reveal the amount of formaldehyde used or even report it to government agencies. They can even claim to be "formaldehyde free", etc on their packaging because the regulations are not enforced! (Sneaky, we know.) Sadly, the after effects are users and stylists with increasing health problems and even cancer. Some companies like Brazilian Blowout are seeing lawsuits pile up, which will hopefully lead to more exposure, safer practices, and better regulations in the future.

Safety for our clients and staff is a huge priority at , so we did a lot of research to find a safe, effective way to offer semi-permanent straightening. We found the good guy among all the bad. The Simply Smooth® Keratin Treatments are "formaldehyde free." And not in the sneaky, truth-stretching way. Simply Smooth® is one of the only manufacturers to voluntarily submit every batch of their product to government agencies for testing, ensuring that they do indeed meet the requirements to be considered non-toxic. These tests are the only way to truly know the accuracy of the "formaldehyde free" claim. Simply Smooth® uses vanilin, an FDA approved preservative derived from vanilla, to do the work without the formaldehyde. Read more facts here.

The Simply Smooth® Keratin Treatment does not change the hair permanently to straighten it, nor does it make the hair stick-straight. It does, however, reduce bulkiness and frizz by 25-40%. Unlike many other straightening treatments, this Keratin does not break down the chemical bonds of the hair. (No formaldehyde.) Instead, it slowly fades out with each shampoo, allowing new hair growth to blend in with the treated hair. (No frizzy roots and pin straight ends as you grow out!) If you heed the curing instructions, such as not washing your hair for up to 72 hours after treatment, your hair will be silky and smooth for an average of 4 months. Using the specially formulated shampoo and conditioner will help lock the keratin in and slow down the fade-away time.

It's great to see companies step up and do the right thing rather than turn their backs and fill their bank accounts, and we are so glad that we can offer our clientele a straightening treatment that is truly safe. Schedule a consultation with Maria if you'd like to learn more first hand about the Simply Smooth® Keratin Treatment and if it's right for you.
