Who Is At The Farmer's Market?

Last week was Opening Day for the Sally Frank's Farmers' Market. Let's see who was there and introduce their products!

Last week was Opening Day for the Sally Frank's Farmers' Market. For those of you who are planning to visit, please remember its new location at Bowden Park on W. Emerson and Cedar, every Thursday from 1-7. There is lots of parking, the area is much more appealing than the previous location, and it is also easily accessible. So if you are at the library, the pool, picking up the kids from the tennis or basketball court or the skate park, taking your dog for a walk, running errands, or get off the commuter rail: make sure to stop by!

Let's see who was there last week:

7 ate 9 Bakery: cheesecakes and baked goods

Stasino Farm: fresh produce and free range eggs

Quilts Uncommon: jewelry and wall art by Penelope Young

Something for everyone, even our 4-legged friends!

I was there around 3, and already some of the items were sold out. So, if you are looking for fennel or rhubarb in particular - come early!

So, what did I bring home last week? I found this Chinese Spinach aka Mizuna at Dick's. Always intrigued with new vegetables, I bought 2 bunches of that, some Bok Choy, and a few of their last tomatoes.

I browned 2 onions and a few cloves of garlic in olive oil, added the chopped greens and tomatoes, and let it simmer for a few  minutes. A sprinkle of salt, a splash of freshly squeezed lemon juice, a few drops of agave syrup, brown rice on the side and a few of Trader Joe's Chicken-less Mandarin Orange Morsels - voila! Dinner was ready! And it was delicious! Mizuna has a very interesting taste, not too overpowering, and I think it went very well with the Bok Choy.
