Buckalew’s Expands to Include Kitchen and Coffee Bar
After moving to 529 Main St, Bucklew's has grown; hopes to become community gathering space, centered around love of food and entertaining.

After their transition to 529 Main St, Bucklew’s General Store has grown and hopes to become a community gathering space, centered around the love of food and entertaining.
On Friday November 22, 2019, joined by The Melrose Chamber of Commerce, Buckalew’s will cut the ribbon on their new kitchen space and take-out coffee bar. Owner Robin Peevey is excited to get back to her roots, doing some baking, preparing charcuterie boards, and hoping to eventually add some prepared foods for take home. Peevey explained, “when I moved to the Boston area from Texas in the early 90s, I began catering out of my apartment. Then, I opened a small catering shop/bakery/café in Davis Square that was quite successful. I sold it and worked in higher education for several years. I am thrilled to be able to cook again and share some of my specialties with our customers.”
In addition to cooking for customers, Robin wants to cook with them, too. She envisions cooking and baking classes and workshops for all ages, as well as wine and beer seminars, featuring local importers and brewers. “Preparing food together is a way to build friendships and community. Eating together with friends and neighbors is great, but cooking and learning about food together is really special.”

The weekend coffee bar will feature Dean’s Beans coffee from Orange MA, assorted teas, hot chocolate, and cider. The highlight of the coffee bar will be Southern Biscuits, freshly baked by Robin. Her biscuits won Boston Magazine’s Best of Boston in 1996.
Peevey suggests that customers keep an eye on the store’s Facebook page and website for details on events and classes. She also welcomes suggestions from the community about what events they’d like to see at Buckalew’s.

Customers are invited to attend the ribbon cutting at 4:45pm on Friday, November 22, and then encouraged to stay for a complimentary 21+ tasting of wines that will be perfect to accompany Thanksgiving dinner. “We’re celebrating the kitchen and coffee bar opening, but we’re also celebrating our customers. We feel so grateful to be here on Main St, with wonderful neighboring businesses and the best customers around. Thank you to everyone who shops here. We are who we are because of you!”
In addition to gourmet food, and beer, Buckalew’s carries a curated collection of gifts and seasonal items. You can visit the store at 529 Main St in Melrose. See the website for hours, www.buckalewsgeneralstore.com
