The Wakefield Independence Day Committee was invited to participate in the Arts Collaborative of Wakefield’s April Art Exhibit, Demos &amp; Sale! What better fit with the theme “Past Tense” than Wakefield’s parade that started in 1922! 
Meet Dan Benjamin, the artist who created Indy and past parade “merch” and Laurel Sullivan, the artist who designed this year’s 250th
Commemorative T-Shirt. During the Saturday, April 18th session from 11am-2pm:

Join us for an exciting afternoon of music!
Featured musicians include Pianist Mary Jane Rupert and a dynamic brass ensemble featuring the musicianship of Samuel Boeger (Bass Trombone), Aidan Davidson (Tenor Trombone), Jafet Díaz-Martin (Trumpet), Jack Krugman (Horn), and Reynolds Martin (Trumpet). Experience the sweeping drama of Beethoven’s Sonata, its three movements unfolding seamlessly attacca—from the poised energy of the Allegro Moderato through a searching Poco Adagio to a vibrant, dancing Rondo. Then dive into the electrifying world of West Side Story in a thrilling brass quintet suite, where iconic moments—from the charged Prologue to the soaring hope of “Somewhere”—burst to life with color, rhythm, and unmistakable Broadway flair.
This program also features, Second Rain, a chamber group collaborative with a bent towards folk and spirituals. Directed by Bob Eggers and Beth Harris. Rooted in folk traditions and spiritual song, Second Rain’s program weaves together timeless melodies and contemporary voices—from the quiet strength of Simple Faith to the uplifting spirit of We Shall Be Known.

Melrose Unitarian Universalist Church

The Melrose UU Church Fellowship Committee invites you to a traditional New England Community Folk Dance for all ages and levels of experience, and with live music 6-10pm. From 6-7pm, novices can learn the basic elements of the dances, but there will be instruction throughout the evening for each of the easy, fun dances. The event is family-friendly, and families are encouraged to attend (particularly the early half). Cammy Kaynor from Melrose will be the dance caller along with John Hicks. The Dance is FREE and open to everyone; voluntary donations are welcome.

Bay State Cohousing

Join us for English Country Dancing this Sunday afternoon, 3-5PM in the Baystate Cohousing unit on Pleasant St. in Malden Center. This event is FREE! (voluntary donations welcome) 
 
I play the melody on my fiddle while teaching and prompting. Our focus is dances of the 17th century that were brought to New England by the colonists. For any who wish to try playing the melodies, sheet music is available and playing by ear or improvisation are encouraged. 
These baroque tunes make one want to dance! The dances are accessible and the dancers are mostly newcomers so, don't expect a "performance" but rather a nice participatory community event for all ages and abilities.

Thanks to a grant from the Town of Wakefield, you’ll see this billboard on Route I95 South. WIDC April Vacation Carnival is led by Jack Warchol. The billboard design was created by Laurel Sullivan (think commemorative 250th T-Shirt design) and professional photographer Bill Ryan offered use of one of his carnival photos.
