Eustis Estate Museum and Study Center, Historic New England

Celebrate freedom and community at Historic New England’s Juneteenth celebration filled with live music, dancing, family-friendly activities, delicious food, and joy. Join us the on the beautiful grounds of the Eustis Estate and inside the 1878 house museum. Pack a picnic or purchase food on-site. Free beverages and dessert will be available for all. Please bring your own picnic blankets and chairs.
Admission is free, donations are welcomed and appreciated.
This celebration is held in collaboration with <a href="https://chsmattapan.org/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Church of the Holy Spirit Mattapan</a> and <a href="https://miltoninterfaith.wordpress.com/courageous-conversations-toward-racial-justice/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Courageous Conversations Milton</a>.
This program is funded in part by a grant from the Milton Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.

Myron Dittmer, president of the Mt. Hood Park Association, is happy to announce that the Association’s annual “Senior Day at the Park” event will be held at clubhouse at Mount Hood Memorial Park &amp; Golf Course on Tuesday, May 12th from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. Come join us at beautiful Mount Hood and enjoy the day inside the beautiful and rustic setting of the clubhouse. There is no charge for this event! This event will occur – rain or shine!
This year promises to be another exciting event where attendees can learn about local environmental activities in our area. We have two speakers planned, William DeConstant, will discuss the efforts of Sagamore Golf, Inc., the management firm currently running Mount Hood Golf Course, who are striving to make Mount Hood one of few Audubon Certified Sanctuary golf courses in the state. Our other speaker is Annie Harris from the Essex National Heritage Commission, which have since 1996 championed the heritage development of Essex County by fostering public-private partnerships that preserve and enhance the significant aspects of the region’s history, cultural heritage, and character. 
Lunch and refreshments will be served, and later attendees will travel up to the 4-story Slayton Tower, the highest point in the park, to experience the panoramic view of the area including the mountains of New Hampshire, Revere Beach, and the Boston skyline. 
There is limited seating for this event - to reserve a seat for this event, please call 781-665-8172. For seniors who require transportation to/from Mount Hood clubhouse, you need to arrange transportation by calling the Council on Aging at 781-665-4304 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and noon.

Milano Family Senior Center

Save money and help the planet by getting broken and damaged household items fixed at Lend and Mend's upcoming Repair Cafe. This free community event runs from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 16, at the Milano Center, 201 W. Foster Street in Melrose.Volunteers will be on hand to assess items, then either fix them or help make a plan for how and where to get items&nbsp;fixed. Attendees can bring lamps, small kitchen appliances, small furniture, clothing, stuffed animals, textiles, and more. Items must be small and light enough for one person to carry.Lend and Mend, a Melrose-based company focused on reuse and repair, organizes repair cafes and other sustainability-focused initiatives. Attendees can also get answers to their questions about laptops and cellphones.&nbsp; SDM Foundation, a Melrose nonprofit that offers free technology education and support (sdmfoundation.org), will be available to provide information about those devices.

Authors Douglas Heath and Alison Simcox will talk about their new book, Walls, Rock, and Rum. Doug and Alison are environmental scientists with an interest in local history. Middlesex Fells, located north of Boston, is one of the most storied state parks in the United States. Home to Indigenous Peoples for thousands of years, this land became part of Charlestown, first capital of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Puritans transformed the landscape, marked woodlots with stone walls, and gave the largest lots to wealthy men. 
They harvested timber and quarried stone from the Fells to build homes, ships, and walls and to fuel brickmaking and rum distilling. Enslaved labor, acquired through the transatlantic trade, supported these markets. Today the Fells is preserved, but beyond its trails and wooded vistas lie deeper stories of Indigenous communities and colonial transformation. Alison and Doug trace this history with new research published for the first time. Sign up on the Library's event calendar to reserve your seat.
