The Cinella family is legendary in Melrose, and has made an impact on this City for more than the last 40 years. Chris Cinella, my dear friend of nearly 40 of those years (since we were three feet high or less), has been a huge part of that impact.
I’m not going to get into all that the Cinellas have done. A large majority of you know Uncle Ted and John T., Jr., and their families. There’s enough articles on everyone. But if you’ve lived here for any portion of the time the Cinella family has been around, you know them. Melrose is extremely close-knit. That’s one of the best things about this place.
I will ask you a couple questions, though: Have your kids or grandkids had pictures taken with Santa at Edward Jones (next to Turner’s) before Santa rides down Main Street on the fire truck at Home for the Holidays? That’s Chris. He arranges that, with his family. For free.

Have you donated to or been on the receiving end of the backpacks and school supplies that Chris collects every year before the start of school, for Melrose families and children in need? Chris arranges that, with his family. For free.
These are just a couple of things Chris does for our City. Just Chris – and just a couple. If he donates to your cause (of which there are many he supports) or serves on your board as a president or member, you’re aware of his generosity, especially with his time. And he didn’t just start doing this. He’s been contributing for many years.

Since they arrived from Lee, MA a half century ago, the Cinellas have had the City of Melrose’s back. Fortunately, my brother (Dan) and I had Chris in our corner (as did many other kids in the neighborhood). He’s as loyal as the day is long. He’s honest. He’s caring and emotionally intelligent – or I say, brilliant. Most importantly, he knows this place, and that matters. A lot. He also knows inevitable and necessary change is on the horizon, and that everyone’s opinion matters – longtime Melrosians as well as new residents and City Councilors.
Chris can balance common sense and what’s best for the greater good, and what we as a city should collectively take risks on, or not – to remain one of the most prosperous and safe places in the state and country.
You get four votes for At-Large Councilors on Tuesday Nov. 5th. Makes sure Chris Cinella gets one of them. He’s a force for good.
