Garipay Announces Candidacy For Ward 4

As your Ward Councilor I will be your visible advocate and neighborhood voice at City Hall

I am Mark Garipay and I am proud to announce my candidacy for Melrose City Council Ward 4. As someone who has a long history of service on Melrose City Commissions and numerous youth and philanthropic organizations, I believe my experience will help Melrose and Ward 4 continue to move forward in a positive direction. Professionally, I have worked in the private sector for over 26 years in management and sales for Ryder Transportation Services. My wife Andrea, a registered nurse at Winchester Hospital, and I have lived at 71 Moorland Rd for many years and we are the proud parents of Tyler, a fifth grader at the Winthrop School. I am the son of Peter Garipay, a long time respected Melrose educator and Maurine Garipay, a registered nurse and a member of the Melrose Board of Health. Service to Melrose is in my family’s blood and proudly dates back generations.

As your new Ward Councilor, I want to be your voice and our neighborhood’s voice at City Hall. If you know me… my voice will be heard.

There are so many positive things happening in Melrose. I am also keenly aware of the challenges we face now and in the future.

My goals:

1. I will be your proactive and visible neighborhood advocate. Be it at a park, the Winthrop School or downtown, I am here to listen and work together to improve Ward 4 and our city.

2. I supported the recent override and I fully support our students and educators. I know that the hard work is ahead and I will make sure that those dollars are spent wisely, transparently, and with accountable results.

3. I will continue to improve our Ward 4 infrastructure, streets, sidewalks, tree canopy, accessibility, water pipes, traffic mitigation, and speeding enforcement. These are critical, quality of life issues that make Ward 4 a great place to live.

4. I will be your advocate working closely with senior leadership at Melrose /Wakefield Hospital to ensure that any possible redevelopment at the hospital will consider the concerns of the neighborhood first.

5. I will work cooperatively with the Chamber of Commerce and our Ward 4 business community in a positive manner, to keep our business community vibrant.

6. I will be a leader in maintaining, protecting and improving our open space, Ell Pond, Mt Hood and our wonderful recreational facilitates.

7. I will work with the new Mayor to reengage the community discussion regarding our outdated public safety buildings and our library.

There are so many issues to discuss. I look forward to meeting all of you in the coming months as this campaign advances. Thank you and I ask for your consideration and vote.
