Giving Thanks on This Special Day

For most people this is a special day with family and friends in celebrating Thanksgiving and taking the time to realize how thankful and fortunate we should be for living in this country and being able to take advantage of its freedoms. A country founded under the principles of, “all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, and that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”. There isn’t another constitution in the world that expresses these rights so strongly, so passionately, and with so much conviction! Back in 1776, men risked their fortunes, possessions, and lives to make that statement come alive in the founding of our nation. We owe them not only a debt of gratitude, but a commitment to continue that great struggle for equality, self-reliance, and the free pursuit of our dreams and aspirations, without government interference or hindrance. In short, we need to be true to our founding principles.

However, we realize that not everyone fully participates and enjoys the fruits of liberty and that we must continually strive to help those less fortunate in any way possible. For it is only by people helping people that we can extend these blessing to all citizenry and not simply by governmental programs! I believe that President John Kennedy said it best when he said,

“I do not believe that Washington should do for people what they can do for themselves through local and private effort.”
