Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker has endorsed longtime City Councilor and former School Committee member Monica Medeiros in the race for Mayor of Melrose.
"I am happy to endorse Monica Medeiros for Mayor of Melrose, and look forward to continuing to work with her in that new capacity,” said Governor Baker.
Baker, who himself has been a local official as a Selectman in the Town of Swampscott prior to taking the reins as Massachusetts’ chief executive, recognized Medeiros for her many years of service in local government.

“As a local elected official, Monica has spent years working on the issues that matter most to the people of Melrose, and she cares deeply about the people she represents,” Governor Baker continued. “As Mayor, Monica will hit the ground running, bring people together, and get the job done.”
“I am honored to have the support of our nation’s most popular Governor, Charlie Baker,” said Medeiros. “I look forward to working with Governor Charlie Baker and Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito on improving our education system, addressing critical transportation issues, and working to better collaborate with other cities and towns on regional initiatives to improve the quality of life for the people of Melrose.”

Baker, was again recently named the “Most Popular Governor” in the country by a Morning Counsult poll with a 73% approval rating.
Governor Baker concluded, “With her experience and her compassion, Monica will make a great mayor.”
