MELROSE, MA - Jeff Carbone Insurance Agency has moved into the downtown building last occupied by Buckalew's, confirming a poorly kept secret about which business would replace the beloved odds-and-ends store. It also marks the return of Carbone Insurance to Main Street after a lengthy renovation-turned-demolition of its former downtown home.

Buckalew's left 504 Main St. at the end of last year when the owner wasn't able to agree on lease terms with the landlord. Patch reported at the time an insurance company was expected to replace Buckalew's.

Buckalew's secured a spot across the street where Whittemore's had been before recently closing. The new location is expected to open in the spring.

Carbone Insurance had been a tenant at 419-429 Main St., known as the 'Coffee Tea & Me' building. The building was initially expected to be renovated and reopen in the winter ... of 2017. It was razed last June after significant structural problems were found. The City said the new building will have 10 apartment units above three businesses - none of which will be Carbone, apparently. The insurance agency was inviting people to its new Main Street digs in a Facebook post Monday.
