
Jessica Dugan, a resident of East Foster Street, is a candidate for the Melrose School Committee. Jessica and her husband have lived in Melrose for 11 years and have 2 young children who are students at the Lincoln Elementary School.
Jessica believes in public education and is deeply committed to the success of the Melrose Public School District. “I am running for School Committee because I believe I can help move our district forward. I am confident that if we work together, embrace big ideas and commit to high expectations, we will find productive and responsible solutions to enhance the quality of education for all of our students.”
Jessica holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from The Ohio State University and a Master’s degree in Nonprofit Management from Case Western Reserve University. She has dedicated her career to enhancing educational opportunities for students, leveraging resources for schools and organizations, and strengthening communities through organizational collaboration. Her professional experience includes work in inner-city schools and non-profit organizations. She has been a part of education reform efforts in Boston and has first hand experience in strategic planning, best practices in teaching and learning, and educational resource development. Currently, Jessica is a program director for a youth development organization providing leadership skills, character education, college access, and social justice programming for high school students from at-risk environments.

Jessica supports the Melrose Public Schools as a Bridge volunteer and as an enrichment coordinator and science fair chair for the Lincoln School PTO. She has successfully written grants to bring artists-in-residence to the Lincoln School for the past 2 years. Jessica served on a committee of the superintendent to create a district wide communication plan and on the most recent superintendent search committee.
As an educational professional, committed parent and collaborative leader, Jessica Dugan will bring experience and perspective to the School Committee. “I have seen what works and what doesn’t in public education. There are exciting things happening in our schools. With students, teachers and administrators working hard, parents and community members committed to high quality education, and supportive city leaders, there is tremendous potential in Melrose. If we let our shared goals lead our conversations, we can unite behind the success of our school district.”
