Legislative Delegation Announces Road Safety Grant for Melrose

Melrose Police Department receives $14,662 grant for traffic safety initiatives.

BOSTON—State Senator Jason Lewis and State Representative Kate Lipper-Garabedian are pleased to announce that the Melrose Police Department received a $14,662 Municipal Road Safety grant, administered by the state’s Executive Office of Grants and Research, with funding awarded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

This grant will be used to help improve safety on local roadways through traffic safety initiatives such as crosswalk and hands-free driving enforcement.

“Pedestrian and road safety is one of the top concerns I hear from my constituents,” said State Senator Jason Lewis. “I’m grateful to the Melrose Police Department for proactively working to identify areas of concern and working diligently to keep pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers safe in Melrose.”

“Road safety continues to be a top priority for residents of Melrose,” said State Representative Kate Lipper-Garabedian. “I looked forward to the Melrose Police Department being able to use this grant funding to continue to keep pedestrians, bicyclists, and drivers safe.”

“We are once again thankful to receive this grant as it will allow us to deploy extra personnel on the street to address numerous traffic safety concerns in the city including but not limited to speeding, hands-free violations, seatbelt enforcement, and crosswalk violations,” said Melrose Police Chief Kevin M. Faller.
