Local Legislators Secure Funding for Melrose Fire Department

On Monday, June 30th, the House and Senate Conference Committee released their final proposal for the Fiscal Year 2015 Budget. Included in the proposal is $50,000 for repairs and upkeep for the fire department in the City of Melrose, secured by State Representative Paul Brodeur (D-Melrose) in the House, and State Senator Jason Lewis (D-Winchester) in the Senate.

“I am pleased to see this funding included in the conference committee’s report,” said Rep. Brodeur. “The fire station is an historic site and an important part of the City’s landscape. With these funds, we ensure that this landmark will remain in the City for generations to come.”

“Melrose’s downtown fire station is both a treasured landmark and a steady reminder to Melrose residents that their community’s safety is in the hands of hard-working professionals,” said Senator Lewis.  “The funding secured for the Melrose Fire Station will be put to good use.”

“I want to thank Representative Brodeur and Senator Lewis for securing this important funding for Melrose,” said Mayor Rob Dolan.  “The downtown fire station is not only a headquarters for many of our public safety personnel but also a building on the National Registry of Historic Buildings. These funds will allow us to conduct a professional evaluation of the building as well as make emergency repairs to its roof in our efforts to preserve this community landmark.”

The FY15 proposal now moves to the Governor’s desk.
