I have lived in Melrose for almost fifty years, and have seen our city grow and change. Today it is more attractive, more inviting, more alive than I can ever remember. Just look around. Young families everywhere, a whole new generation of Melrosians who have decided that this is where they wish to live, raise their children, be a part of this community.

Ward Four is the very heart and center of Melrose. It contains our main civic buildings, our downtown, our library, our hospital, even our Ell Pond. More than any other ward, it is Melrose. For Ward Four alderman, we need someone who knows our city to the core, and who knows how we got to where we are now. There are real challenges in the coming years: to preserve our historic business district, to improve our civic, business, and cultural services, and to protect our open spaces and recreational facilities. Not to mention making our schools the best they can be.

Mark Garipay is that person. Long associated as a board member of the YMCA, son of a well-respected Melrose educator and a registered nurse currently on the Melrose Board of Health, Mark has been active in community service since he was a teenager. The Wyoming Cemetery Commission, The Knights of Columbus Building Committee and the OneMelrose Campaign are just three of his long standing civic activities. Mark listens, he solves problems, he thinks outside the box. Mark, his wife Andrea, and his son Tyler, are members of the new generation of Melrosians who will bring vitality and energy to our city in the years ahead.

I strongly support him and urge the residents of Ward Four to vote for Mark Garipay.
