To my neighbors,

My name is Monica Medeiros and I would like to ask for your vote for Mayor of Melrose on Tuesday September 17th.

I have the experience needed to become our next mayor, while also bringing a much needed fresh eye to the corner office. I am currently an Alderman-at-Large serving citywide and previously served three terms as the Ward Two Alderman in the Horace Mann area. Before that I served on the School Committee.

I am honored to have served in this capacity and to have played a role in our many successes.

I am passionate about Melrose. Our city needs a vision to succeed. I am ready to make Melrose a leader in the areas that matter most -- a leader in education, in fiscal management, in sustainability and in community engagement.

Melrose deserves strong financial management. I will help us avoid wasteful spending and reach our community goals by auditing our books, using financial forecasting to plan for the future, and by presenting a budget everyone can understand.

I will begin, Day One, to build a five-year strategic financial plan for Melrose. Having a strong financial plan in place will set us on the path to meet our needs for education, for public safety, to fix our roads and address our aging water & sewer infrastructure.

As the only former ward alderman, I believe taking a neighborhood approach to government by involving stakeholders in the decision making process yields the best results. I want to see us be a leader in Community Engagement by opening up city government t to make it accessible to all, not just the politically connected.

I have the best experience to put this vision into action. Not just from my experience in city government, but also with my experience on the state level.

Governor Baker has appointed me to his Advisory Commission on Local Government. I am currently the President of the Mass Municipal Councillors’ Association. I serve on the Executive Board of the Mass Municipal Association and on its policy committee on Personnel and Labor Relations.

In these roles, I interact with municipal leaders – mayors, town managers, councilors and selectmen from all across the state. We share and create best practices. This knowledge and this network is something I can put to use to help Melrose grow and thrive.

To be a leader, Melrose needs a leader. I have that experience, vision and passion. Again I ask for your vote for me, Monica Medeiros, on Tuesday September 17.

Monica Medeiros

Candidate for Mayor
