Melrose Boy Scout Troop 615 teamed up recently with Ward 5 Alderman Shawn MacMaster to clean up litter on the West Wyoming Street corridor. As part of the service project, Troop 615 worked its way from Main Street westward to the Lincoln School, picking up litter on West Wyoming and surrounding streets, including Waverly, Corey, and Pleasant.
“I am thankful for the willingness of Troop 615 to partner with me on a service project that
made a positive contribution to the neighborhood,” said MacMaster. “These scouts really
epitomize the best of our youth in Melrose.”

Responding to concerns raised by residents about litter in the West Wyoming area, MacMaster also worked with the Department of Public Works to add a new permanent trash barrel on West Wyoming between Richdale and the Melrose Diner.
“Our DPW team, under the leadership of Superintendent John Scenna, are really the best in the business,” said MacMaster. “But for as much as they do to keep our neighborhoods clean, each and every one of us can also play a role by retrieving and disposing of litter when we come across it, which will allow DPW to focus on larger street maintenance and beautification initiatives.
