Melrose City Budget Now Available Online

MELROSE, MA—Have you ever wondered if your tax dollars have been going to good use?

Well, now you can more easily view the Melrose’s expenditures and income online. Melrose Mayor Rob Dolan announced Friday that the town’s visual budget is now available.

“The city budget is a valuable tool for deepening the conversation between government and citizens about how your money is spent and why,” Mayor Dolan wrote on the City’s website.”Understanding the context for financial decisions allows the community to help develop values and priorities for Melrose every year.”

Residents will be able to view historical data as well as projections into the future. The tool will also allow residents to see how their individual tax bill is spent on city departments and services.

The current data shows that the town’s revenues have increased by .025 percent from the 2015 to 2016 fiscal years. Property taxes have increased by 3.2 percent compared to the previous year.

Melrose taxpayers contribute $1,880.69 to the city’s schools and $1,617.85 to city departments.
