Melrose Cultural Council Grant Application Cycle Begins For 2027

Now is the chance for any Melrose resident with an idea for a community event.

MELROSE, MA — The Melrose Cultural Council is accepting grant applications online from now through Thursday, Oct. 15.

Each year, the Melrose Cultural Council receives funding from the Massachusetts Cultural Council and the city, which it uses to fund various enrichment initiatives throughout Melrose. For 2027, the council will receive a $50,000 appropriation from the city, allowing it to expand funding opportunities for local artists and zero- to low-cost cultural programming for residents. The council distributed more than $39,500 during the 2026 grant cycle, including $20,000 provided by the city and additional funding from the Massachusetts Cultural Council.

The council is seeking proposals for community-oriented arts, cultural, and interpretive sciences events and programming with broad public benefit and impact that will take place during the calendar year of 2027. Applicants must hold their events or programming at a local ADA-compliant venue. First-time applicants are encouraged to apply, and applicants may request full funding for a project, although requests may be partially funded or not awarded. The council awarded grants ranging from $300 to $3,500 to 31 applicants during the 2026 cycle.

For 2027, the council is prioritizing new initiatives that produce free public events and activities in outdoor spaces, as well as projects focused on inclusion, diversity, and equity. The priorities were informed by the results of a recent community outreach survey. Preference will also be given to projects that build community through connection and dialogue and highlight Melrose's current and historic diversity through arts and culture.

Applications, eligibility guidelines, local priorities, and a list of previously awarded grants are available online.
