Melrose Defense Comes Up Big in Win Against Beverly
The Melrose defense came up with a big fourth quarter stop to beat Beverly at home 14-6.

Leading 14-6 with less than four minutes to go in the fourth quarter, the Melrose High School football team came up big on defense, stopping the Beverly offense on fourth down on the 28-yard line to seal the victory.
Spencer Walsh broke through the line for a 1-yard scoring run followed by a Brian Reale extra point to give the Red Raiders (1-1) a 7-0 first quarter lead.
Beverly's Brendan Flaherty scored on a 5-yard run in the second quarter, but the extra point failed and Melrose went into the half leading, 7-6.

In the fourth quarter, Dean Anderson broke off a 30-yard touchdown run to pad Melrose's lead at 14-6.
Melrose will host Belmont (0-2) next Friday at home at 7 p.m. Belmont has gotten off to a rough start this season after being shutout by Cardinal Spellman, 25-0, in week one and then Bedford, 34-0, on Thursday night.
