The Melrose Firefighter Executive Board of Local 1617 announced today that they officially endorse Melrose Alderman Monica Medeiros in her candidacy for State Senator in the 5th Middlesex District in the special election to be held Tuesday, April 1, 2014.

“Monica has worked with and supported the firefighters in Melrose,” said President Ken MacIntosh. “She has been a strong advocate for public safety as a member of the Board of Aldermen. We look forward to working with her in the State Senate.”

Since Medeiros came on the Board more than six years ago, the fire department has seen significant changes. New firefighters were hired which allowed the department to begin providing both basic and advanced life support ambulatory and paramedic services to Melrose, while also reducing the overtime budget by hundreds of thousands of dollars.
