Melrose Flowers In Full Bloom, But Need Your Help

Those beautiful flowers hanging from lampposts around the city? They don't just grow there naturally, you know.

MELROSE, MA — Notice all the beautiful flowers hung around town? That's thanks to the city's Annual Flower Baskets Initiative, which spruces up the town as the weather (supposedly) turns. It's a group effort from the City of Melrose, the Melrose Chamber of Commerce, the Melrose business and civic communities, and individual Melrose residents.

The tradition hangs beautiful geraniums in baskets on the Victorian lamp posts on Main Street, West Wyoming Street, West Emerson Street, Franklin Street and Essex Street. They usually hang until late fall. (We'll be here even past the fall, so subscribe to Melrose Patch of like us on Facebook for more local news and events.)

The City of Melrose is asking you consider donating to keep the flowers blooming and the streets beautiful throughout the summer. A $75 contribution sponsors one basket. If you can contribute to this growing tradition, please make a check payable to the City of Melrose/Flower Baskets and mail it to Joan Cassidy, 61 Clifton Park, Melrose, MA, 02176. Contact the Melrose Chamber of Commerce at info@melrosechamber.org or 781-665-3033.
