Caffe Nero Coming To Downtown Melrose

The coffee competition on this one block of downtown just got a whole lot stiffer.

MELROSE, MA — Caffe Nero will be one of the two commercial tenants in the new development at the site of the old Moynihan Plaza. The rapidly expanding London-based chain of European-style coffeehouses confirmed to Patch that it will be opening at 530 Main St. "toward the end of the year."

Nero will be opening almost directly across from Starbucks and just doors down from Bruegger's, making for a competitive coffee market in just one downtown block. There is still no official word on if and when Coffee, Tea & Me will return to Main Street.

A second commercial tenant is expected to join Nero on the first floor of 530 Main St., but the developers said they don't have one yet. The businesses would be below two floors housing 10 residential units. Read more on the latest developments for 530 Main St. here.

Caffe Nero's are popping up all over Greater Boston, with some of the closest ones in Somerville's Assembly Row and the Burlington Mall. The first Nero appeared in Downtown Crossing in 2014.
