Melrose High School Tragedy: Identity of Victim Confirmed
The Melrose community is mourning the tragic death of Robert Davey Jr.
MELROSE, MA—The Melrose community is mourning the death of 19-year-old Robert Davey Jr., a junior at Melrose High School, after he was struck by a northbound Haverhill Line train on Monday.
Sources close to the investigation confirmed that the identity of the victim was in fact Davey on Thursday, according to a report by Wicked Local Melrose. The MBTA announced Monday that a man had been struck in the vicinity of 94 Vinton Street and was pronounced dead in light of his injuries.

“Robert was well liked by students and staff at Melrose High School,” Melrose High School Principal Marianne Farrell said in a statement Wednesday (reported by Wicked Local Melrose). “We will remember his smile that would light up any room.”
Farrell alerted the Melrose High School community Tuesday that the victim was likely a Melrose High School student. Classes and exams were cancelled on Wednesday in light of the events and an altered mid-year exam schedule was put into effect.

A GoFundMe page has been set up in Davey’s Honor by a friend of the family. Donations have already exceeded the $5,000 goal by $4,758 in just one day as of 1:50 p.m. Thursday.
