7th OUI Charge For Melrose Man: Police

Robert Cook, whose license had been revoked after six previous convictions, gave officers a fake name, police said.

PEABODY, MA — A Melrose man who had his license revoked for six prior instances of impaired driving was arrested again on the same charge, police said. Robert Cook, 64, was arrested Friday evening and charged with his seventh operating under the influence offense after a MassDOT help van reported his 2019 GMC parked in the travel lane on Route 1 North.

Cook initially gave responding officers a fake name, police said. He was then identified as Cook and arrested on several charges:

  • Operating under the influence of liquor, seventh offense
  • OUI while having license suspended for previous OUI charge
  • Operating a motor vehicle while having license suspended as habitual traffic offender
  • Operating a motor vehicle while having license suspended, subsequent offense
  • Negligent operation of a motor vehicle
  • Refusing to identify self for police
  • Arrestee furnishing a false name, Social Security number
  • Failure to use care in starting/stopping/turning/backing

Cook was held on bail at the House of Correction in Middleton. He was scheduled to appear in Peabody District Court Thursday.
