Melrose National Little League Tournaments Are in Full Swing
Yesterday was the last game for the Melrose National All-Stars District 12 age 11 team, but many championship tournaments are still underway.

Melrose National Little League began its championship tournaments on July 1 and on Thursdday, the Melrose National All-Stars District 12, age 11 team played at Conant Park in Melrose against the Medford National All-Stars.
Medford defeated Melrose 12-2 and now moves on to bi-district play in this double-elimination series. This game marked the last for the Melrose team.
All-Star players are chosen by their coaches for their outstanding performances during the season, said Richard Aylward, father of All-Star Jack Aylward.

"At the end of the season all the coaches get together for a big meeting and vote on their best players on each team in each district," Aylward said.
The Jimmy Fund All-Stars began their tournament last weekend and play throughout next week. Last year, the Melrose Jimmy Fund team won the championship, said Coach Glen Crowell, who coached Thursday's game at Conant Park.

"I've been coaching in the league for several years and we have an outstanding group of players," Crowell said. "We're hoping for another championship this summer with the Jimmy Fund team and the State Team."
The 2010 District 12 Champions for the Melrose National Little League age 9/10 are now the State Team and will play in the State Sectionals July 16 and 17 at Hosmer Field in Watertown.
Coach Crowell and manager Ron Bright are looking forward to a possible State Championship with the State Team.
"It should be a great experience with a chance to play on a beautiful field in Watertown," Crowell said. "If we win this weekend we go on to play in Tewksbury, and if we win there, to Cranston, RI where we have a chance to be televised in the State Championships.
