Melrose Native's Heroics Help Penguins Lift Stanley Cup

Melrose native Conor Sheary's Pittsburgh Penguins took home the Stanley Cup Sunday night.

SAN JOSE, CA—A Melrose native and his team have taken home Lord Stanley, winning the Stanley Cup Sunday night. 

Pittsburgh Penguins left-winger Conor Sheary, 23, and his teammates have won Stanley Cup Championship, as they defeated the San Jose Sharks 3-1 during Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals. Sheary was born in Winchester, but grew up in Melrose, and his family still resides in the city.

Sheary notched two goals and one assist during the Stanley Cup Finals, assisting defenseman Kris Letang on the go-ahead goal which would eventually ice both the game and the series. Sheary also scored the game-winning goal in overtime of Game 2. 

Sheary played his collegiate hockey at University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and attended Cushing Academy in Ashburnham.
