Melrose Police Log: OUI Crash; Trash Dumpers Using Dumpsters

MELROSE, MA — The Melrose Police log offers a peek into some of the (allegedly) crime-y or plain whacky parts of the city. When reading the log entires, it's important to remember that an arrest does not indicate a conviction, and that some initial charges may change.

Police listed tons of entries between Monday, Jan. 22 and Sunday, Jan. 28. Below are some of the excerpts.

Monday, Jan. 22

2:57 a.m. - Crash on Franklin Street results in arrest of 26-year-old on OUI and marked lanes violation. Driver allegedly crashed into retaining wall and car flipped over. Another vehicle in driveway was damaged.

1:54 p.m. - Clerk at Melrose Mobil Station reported a theft.

3:09 p.m. - Caller on Washington St. reports a suspicious person in her yard. He fled when she encountered him. K-9 units could not locate.

Tuesday, Jan. 23

6:01 p.m. - Caller reports stop sign down at Chipman and West Highland.

9:10 p.m. - A motor vehicle stop on Howard St. results in summons for 34-year-old woman for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.

Wednesday, Jan. 24

2:26 p.m. - A news helicopter reported kids were on the ice again.

Thursday, Jan. 25

4:11 p.m. - A man was arrested for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.

Friday, Jan. 26

6:53 a.m. - Caller reports three young men not from the area walking between driveways at Myrtle and West Emerson. They were in dark clothes and had backpacks. Police didn't find anyone.

8:48 a.m. - A caller complained people were dumping trash in dumpster. Police spoke to the people, who were granted permission to dump trash in the dumpster.

1:47 p.m. - A person requested assistance for an out of control granddaughter.

3:11 p.m. - Hoover School Principal reports seeing a coyote during dismissal.

4:55 p.m - Complaint of kids on ice at Ell Pond.

6:46 p.m. - Report of a "female in donation box" at Pine Banks Park.

Saturday, Jan. 27

1:31 a.m. - Kids playing basketball at Foss Park.

1:35 a.m. - Loud party at Stone Place Residences.

1:07 p.m. - Money missing from safety deposit box at TD Bank North.

1:21 p.m. - Report of someone ice fishing on Ell Pond.

8:30 p.m. - Motor vehicle stop results in citation for operation a motor vehicle with a suspended license.

Sunday, Jan. 28

10:41 a.m. - Woman reports homeless man inside Bank of America ATM. Man told not to return there.

12:13 p.m. - Caller reports losing a black beagle from Greenwood Street in Wakefield.
