MELROSE, MA — It was relatively silent nights for Melrose Police in the week leading up to Christmas. The Melrose Police logs from Monday, Dec. 18 to Sunday, Dec. 24 were especially light on newsworthy items. Here are a few that stood out.

Monday, Dec. 18
6:46 p.m. - Caller reported erratic driver almost hitting several cars and mounting curb on Upham at Dell. Driver told police he was on his cell phone.

9:26 p.m. - Caller reports unwanted guest at Mount Vernon Ave. apartment. Party left willingly. Michael J. Byrnes summonsed on larceny under $250 and assault and battery charges.
Tuesday, Dec. 19
6:59 a.m. - A vehicle was towed at Franklin St. and Franklin Ter. Sulio Chavez was summonsed on charges of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and marked lanes violation.
5:07 p.m. - Car broken into in Shaw's parking lot.
Wednesday, Dec. 20
8:37 p.m. - Sudden death reported at elderly housing.
Thursday, Dec. 21
8:40 a.m. - Resident brings in license plate found on Washington Street. The plate appeared to be stolen out of Brookline.
6:09 p.m. - Man reported to be urinating at West Emerson and Essex. He is placed in protective custody.
Friday, Dec. 22
12:36 a.m. - Caller said elderly neighbor's dog was outside in freezing cold on Youle. Homeowners were asleep, dog was brought inside.
3:18 p.m. - Person reports package theft on East Foster.
Saturday, Dec. 23
9:19 a.m. - Report of someone yelling into La Qchara.
1:14 p.m. - Needles near road on Main Street. Disposed of.
Sunday, Dec. 24
7:49 p.m. - Police notified a woman in her 30s called 911 near Walgreens, but didn't mention what the problem was. Police made contact with the woman, who said she had lent her phone to another woman that misdialed and hung up.
10:40 p.m. - Car stolen from Main Street parking lot.
