Melrose School Closings: Public Schools Closed Monday

Melrose's schools will close due to a snow storm set to hit the region Monday.

MELROSE, MA - Melrose’s Public Schools will be closed Monday due to the incoming storm.

The National Weather Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow from 4 a.m. Monday morning until 7 a.m. Tuesday morning. City Hall as well as the Library and Senior Center will be closed.

The City has urged residents to report any downed wires to the Melrose Fire Department at 781-665-1313. Power outages should be reported to National Grid at 800-322-3223. There will also be an on-street parking ban on city streets Monday.

Six to 10 inches of accumulating snow is expected from this system.

The snow will overspread the area Monday morning from 4-7 a.m., then becomes heavy at times after 8 a.m. and continues into the early afternoon. The snow intensity begins to diminish by mid afternoon. Winds will be from the north at 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph.

Officials say travel will be slow at best on well-treated surfaces and difficult on any unplowed or untreated surfaces. Drivers can expect visibilities of a quarter mile or less at times.
