Melrose School Delay, Closing Protocol

Superintendent Taymore lets parents know when and how delays and cancellations with be called.

Superintendent of Schools Cyndy Taymore recently wrote about decisions on school closings and delays during inclement weather. The following information is derived from that letter.

Taymore consults with the DPW and Police and Fire to close for the day, delay for 60, 90, or 120 minutes, or dismiss early.

An example of a one-hour “delayed opening” due to inclement weather is as follows:

High school would start at 8:45 a.m.
Middle School would start at 8:45 a.m.
Elementary students would start at 9:15 a.m.

An example of a 90 minute “delayed opening” due to inclement weather is as follows:

High school would start at 9:15 a.m.
Middle School would start at 9:15 a.m.
Elementary students would start at 9:45 a.m.

An example of a two-hour “delayed opening” due to inclement weather is as follows:

High school would start at 9:45 a.m.
Middle School would start at 9:45 a.m.
Elementary students would start at 10:15 a.m.

If you utilize the Before School Program, please know that if school is delayed the before school program will not operate.
Breakfast will not be served in schools that usually offer a breakfast program.

At the Franklin Early Childhood Center:

An example of a one-hour “delayed opening” due to inclement weather is as follows:

Classes normally starting at 8:25 a.m. will start at 9:25 a.m.;
Classes normally starting at 9:00 a.m. will start at 10:00 a.m.
All classes will end at the regular times.

An example of a 90 minute “delayed opening” due to inclement weather is as follows:

Classes normally starting at 8:25 a.m. will start at 9:55 a.m.
Classes normally starting at 9:00 a.m. will start at 10:30 a.m.
All classes will end at the regular times.

An example of a two-hour “delayed opening” due to inclement weather is as follows:

There will be no school for the 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. classes.
Classes normally starting at 8:25 a.m. will start at 10:25 a.m.
Classes that normally follow a 9:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. schedule will start at 11:00 a.m.

All classes will end at the regular times.

If you utilize the Before School Education Stations Jr. Program, please know that if school is delayed the before school program will not operate.

Taymore asks that parents do not call police or the school department about closings or delays, but instead rely on local media.

The last day of school is scheduled for June 14, 2017. When planning the calendar, an additional five days fare added or possible snow day cancellations, bringing the last day to June 21, 2017.
