Melrose Shutting Down All Personal Care Business

MELROSE, MA — The Health Department is issuing an emergency order shutting down all personal care businesses, including hair salons, barber shops, nail salons, massage and body work, permanent makeup, and lash extensions.

The order, which takes effect Friday, does not effect licensed medical professionals, such as physical therapy.

The Board of Health voted on the closure in an emergency meeting Tuesday night. The order will tighten the vice on the local economy as officials work to stem the spread of the new coronavirus.

Restaurants and bars are already takeout- and delivery-only due to a state order.
