Melrose Speed Limit Change Today
The police department is hoping to reduce motor vehicle crashes by five percent.

The default speed limit in Melrose was changed today to 25 miles per hour. That presents a drop from the 30 mph limit that had stood. Road signs will begin to reflect this change.
The only roads not subject to this 25 mph speed limit are Lynn Fells Parkway and Ravine Road.
“Our goal here is to reduce motor vehicle crashes by 5 percent through education, enforcement and community meetings. Year to date we’ve investigated nearly 300 crashes in the city,” Melrose Police Chief Michael Lyle said. “We understand that there will be a transition period as residents adjust to the new speed limit.”
