Melrose Seventh-Grader Pulled From Icy Waters By Other Students
The student is OK, but people are urged to stay off the thinning ice.

MELROSE, MA — A Melrose seventh-grade student is OK after falling through thinning ice at Ell Pond. The student was rescued by two fellow seventh-graders, while another called 911, according to a school release.
Police responded to a 911 call at about 7:40 a.m. of someone who had fallen through the ice near Tremont St. They arrived to find four students, two boys and two girls, who had been walking to school before taking a detour on the ice.
The boy apparently went onto the ice before falling in shallow water that went up to his chest, the Mayor's office said. A boy and girl pulled him out of the water while another girl called 911.
