UPDATE: Melrose Suspicious Object Poses No Threat
Melrose City Hall and the Post Office were evacuated and are closed for the remainder of Wednesday.

MELROSE, MA—Melrose City Hall and the Post Office have been closed due to the presence of a suspicious object in a mail drop box located between the two buildings Wednesday afternoon.
Melrose Police Chief Michael Lyle told Patch that the State Bomb Squad has determined that there is no public safety threat. According to a statement, police determined that the object was a metal container wrapped in tinfoil
“We were able to quickly respond and determine that the public was not in danger,” Lyle said in a statement. “Thank you to the Melrose Fire Department and State Police for their assistance, along with City Hall and the Post Office for their immediate cooperation. Safety is always our number one priority.”

Police received reports of the object at approximately 12:30 p.m., which was located in a blue mail drop box between the Post Office and City Hall. The scene was determined safe at 1:30 p.m.
