Melrose Football Pulls Away From Masconomet In Season Opener
The Raiders turned it on in the second half.

MELROSE, MA — Melrose poured it on in the second half of Friday night's season opener at Fred Green Field, dropping Masconomet, 32-6, in front of a lively crowd who broke out their hoodies and light jackets.
It was a beautiful night to kick off the season. The Raiders agreed, turning a 6-6 halftime score into a blowout.
The big play of the game came from Adam Caffey, the big team captain, who ran back a fumble some 55 yards for an 18-6 Melrose lead with 56 seconds left in the third quarter.

After that, Colin Kiernan, another captain, scored on a tough short TD run. Kevin Peete, who also had a momentum-stealing interception, scored late in the fourth for the final margin.
Michael Fennell started the scoring in the first quarter when he kept his toes in for an 11-yard touchdown pass from Charlie Stanton. Masco answered by punching it in at the goal line, and it was scoreless until Stanton punched it in himself with 3:16 left in the third quarter.

Ray Guity never scored, but he made some big runs to keep Melrose heading in the right direction.
