Open Auditions for WRYT Summer program "Seussical, the Musical"

Wakefield Repertory Youth theatre is a six-week theater program devoted to teaching children about theater from onstage singing, dancing and acting to the behind the scenes magic of set design, lighting and costuming while putting together a spectacular musical theater production.

With a staff featuring many educators and theatrical professionals, WRYT strives to create a supportive environment that welcomes all into the WRYT family.  Many of our staff have gone through the program themselves and know first hand what a life-changing experience this camp can be.

The program is open to students entering grades 5 through 9.  All students are encouraged to audition.  No prior theater experience or preparation is necessary.  Any student who auditions and wishes to participate in the production will be cast.  Casting decisions are based on talent, regardless of age, gender or previous participation in the program.

The program begins on June 29 until the production goes up on August 6, 7 and 8, 2015.  In general, hours are Monday - Friday from 8:00 am- 2:00 pm, except during the last two weeks where additional weekend hours should be expected.  For the past seven seasons, the programs daily rehearsals, camp life and performances have been held at the Melrose Performing Arts Center, Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School.  In addition to rehearsing the show, the students will participate in group warm-up activities, games and workshops.

WRYT is also an award-winning program with several EMACT DASH award nominations as well as a recent win for Stage Management. 

WRYT has a long and illustrious history of fabulous children’s theatre.  Past productions of Peter Pan, Annie, My Son Pinocchio, Willy Wonka and The Wizard of Oz have begun to build a strong theatrical foundation for area youths, with an appreciation & interest in the arts.  We’ve seen our casts soar to great heights and come together to create theatre-yet at the end of the day we are most proud of the family that WRYT has become and the legacy and impact that this program has on the community and it’s students.

Auditions are being held Monday, June 15 from 4pm - 7pm, Tuesday, June 4 pm to 7 pm.  Auditions are held at the Wakefield-Lynnfield Methodist Church at 273 Vernon St., Wakefield, MA.  There is no need to prepare anything!  Students will be taught a short musical selection from the show and a short dance combination.  Additionally, students will be asked to recite a short monologue from the show (does not need to be memorized, is available online to give students a chance to look over in advance)  Students only need to attend one day of auditions.  Please visit our website at www. wakefieldrep.org or feel free to call us at 781-245-1173 for more information or if you have any questions.  We hope to see you there, we are planning an amazing summer!
