Paul Brodeur Is Ready to Lead Melrose

By Andrew Schuyler (Forest Street)

Very soon Melrose voters will be making a decision that will impact our community for years to come. When making such a critical choice, I encourage voters to consider not just what the candidates say, but also what they have done. I am supporting Paul Brodeur for Mayor because he has the record and vision to ensure Melrose continues its path forward.

Paul currently serves as our State Representative, and does so with distinction. He has been a leader on workforce development, senior citizen issues and fiscal transparency. Moreover, Rep. Bordeur has received numerous legislative awards from a diverse range of groups, including the MA Children’s Trust, Workforce Solutions Group, Mass Insight and the Association of Developmental Disabilities Providers, to name a few. As a former chief of staff in the State Senate, I can say with certainty that these awards are hard-earned and very difficult to obtain, particularly when considering that there are 200 members of the Legislature.

And Paul’s time in the Legislature will serve Melrose extremely well. The state provides significant resources to cities and towns across the Commonwealth, and Paul knows precisely how the system works, as evidenced by his identification of a state grant program that is designed to ensure that another Brazil Street disaster does not happen again. He also has strong relationships with his Legislative colleagues and the Administration, and has put Melrose on the map on Beacon Hill.

Perhaps the reason Rep. Brodeur is so highly respected in town and among his peers is because he engages his constituents and truly solicits their thoughts. There’s an old adage: When someone is speaking to you, are you listening, or waiting to talk? Paul is truly a thoughtful listener. This skill informs his opinions and policy positions by allowing him to see all sides of an issue and make a rational, fact-based decision.

I first met Paul in 2013 when I served as the founding Chairperson of the Melrose Birth to Five Committee. While the committee was run under the Mayor’s office, and had no relation to state government, Paul eagerly participated in the initiative. Paul recognized the important work the committee was focused on, from helping parents navigate the somewhat overwhelming Kindergarten registration process, to hosting numerous events such as a new parent expo and family concerts at the Common. And while my kids have aged out of this group, I am pleased that Paul has committed to reestablishing it if he is elected.

I strongly encourage Melrose voters to reach out to Paul directly if you have questions about his candidacy. Paul Brodeur is prepared to lead Melrose to new heights and to do so in a collaborative way.
