Rash Of Melrose Car Break-Ins, Police Issue Warning

MELROSE, MA — Police are warning residents after a "recent uptick in motor vehicle break-ins." Vehicles on five streets were broken into overnight Monday. Unlocked cars were "rifled through" on Charles, Oakland, West Emerson, and Winthrop Streets, as well as Lake Avenue.

Police recommend locking your vehicle, even if its in the driveway, and hide your belongings inside.

"Don’t make it easy for criminals," Chief Michael Lyle said. "Lock your doors and don’t leave your belongings in plain sight in your vehicle. If you have something of value, take it with you, put it in your trunk or bring it in your house. Let’s all have a safe and happy holiday season."
