Red Hatters for January 2025

by Shirley Rabb

It was last year; our last outing for 2024 and we had a wonderful time at the Greater Boston Stage Company in Stoneham. (The Stoneham Theater).

The show was "A New Year's Eve Pops Spectacular"; and it was! The 40 piece Firebird Pops Orchestra played songs like the Skaters Overture, Chanukah Suite,Suite from Downton Abbey, theme from Jurassic Park and others that were chilling and amazing . The audience was in awe of the music as it filled the hall.

Kathy St. George and Stephen Markarian lifted their voice to That's entertainment, All the Things You Are, I Can't give you anything but love, What are you doing New Year's Eve, many more, and joined together with the audience to sing Auld Lang Syne.

This was an afternoon performance starting at 3pm giving us time for dinner after the show. We ate at the Main St.Grill and Taproom in Wakefield. Seafood. Ribs, pasta, pizza and chicken pot pie were the choices of the group, and we were all happy with our chosen meals. Doggie bags went home and we were happy to be together on the last day of the 2024; planning for January 1st. of 2025 with wishes for a happy and healthy New Year for all.

Our first function for this year was at the Woburn Theater to see the movie Wicked.

We were not really sure about this movie; it was supposed to be a time period before the original play. There is to be a second followup movie sometime this year. It was not one of the best movies any of us have seen, but it was January 1st. 2025 and we went to a movie as we have been doing for many years.

It was a Red Hat Day and we enjoyed each others company, and we had time to have lunch at Longhorn steakhouse in Reading.

Good food, on a fun drizzly day; now here we go into 2025 with the hope of good health, happy days, returning to some of our favorite places, and new places to discover.

Join us...and try to keep up.

January 8th. and it was Elvis at the Melrose Senior Center. Dimitri Stavropoulos was the attraction this evening. ( 6pm).

He is handsome and fun to watch; Elvis all over! Blue suede shoes, Always on my mind,, Love me tender, and many more great hits.

Dimitri has been performing about 8 years and planning to keep on going. He also does many other performers from the 50s to the 70s, Ray Obison, Jay, and the Americans, etc.

He is on call if you want a great show...just call or text him at 617-835-1086.

Next time out it was on January 29th heading for the The Flaming Grill in Malden for Chinese New Year; the year of the snake.

This buffet is a great spot with a variety of food for everyone. It was a fun day that we honored one of our past members Lorraine Obst that contributed to the cost of this Red Hat Outing.

So ending this first month of the year we move forward. Follow us for some more Red Hat outings in the months to come.

Stay safe and be happy...
