October entered cold with visions of fall and winter but we are Red Hatters and on the move again.
October 4th. we headed out to Waltham to hear the United States Air Force Rhythm in blue Band. This was an eleven piece band plus a female singer. The group entertained for about an hour and a half with songs in jazz, and played and sang the patriotic songs we all know. There was a tributes to each service group as members, past and present, stood for their applause.
It was a pleasant evening, although cold when we left the theater to head for our cars. We enjoyed ourselves to a different venue that we rarely get to see.

Because it was an evening performance most members had their dinner, or snack before going to the theater. So no restaurant to report for this trip.
Another start of another month for our Red Hat Group.

October 20th and the Concord Players' were having their 100th Anniversary Birthday Bash. Some of us could not pass this up, so off we went to Concord for the party.
We stopped to have dinner at the Main Street restaurant in Concord. There was a line waiting to get in and as we decided to leave we were called back. Our red hats got us some attention and the 20-25 minute wait changed to 10 minutes; it was worth the wait. This is a friendly, fun place with great sandwiches, salads and large main courses. We were served quickly and answered questions about the red hatters to a few of the customers. Crowed but not loud with a smiling very busy staff; this will be a stop when we come to see the Concord Players perform Funny Girl in November.
The Birthday Bash lasted just under two hours with refreshments and champagne available before speakers came to the podium. One of the speakers was Trav S.D who is a key figure in the New Vaudeville, Burlesque and Indie Theater movements. He spoke about the play Funny Girl loosely based on the life of Fannie Brice. He gave us a great deal of information about Fannie Brice's real life story from childhood to the famed star she became.
The cast of Funny Girl performed two numbers from their upcoming play, and we look forward to see the entire play in November.
It was a very interesting evening all around. There was birthday cake on the way out and another Red Hat fun thing experience.
October 22nd took us to the Lynnfield Senior Center to watch Sheryl Fay perform as Anne Frank. Although this performance was shorter than her others, never the less it was outstanding. Sheryl Has a way of taking you to where she is in her acting. You could feel the terror of Anne Frank as she wrote her diary while hiding in an attic during the second world war. It was another applause for a great job well done.
With time to spare we stopped at Brother's restaurant in Wakefield for lunch. With still half the day left we all were off to our respective errands for the rest of the day. Good morning, good friends, what more could you ask for.
When you read this the ghosts and goblins of Halloween would already be gone, and the winds of winter are approaching. The weather will be a factor on the upcoming months for all of us but...we are Red Hatters so keep looking for our monthly article and enjoy each season with us.
