Red Hatters October 2024

Fall is in the air; colors are on the trees, and the Red Hatters are on the move....

October 11th and the Saugus Senior Center, and Sheryl Faye as Amelia Earhart. What a show!

We have seen many of Sheryl's portrayal of Historical Women. Each time we she her shows we are more impressed by her ability to change costumes as she moved across the stage never missing a beat of her performance.

But...before and after each show she is setting up and taking down her placement of clothes, her changes and background voices, and never seems to waiver an inch or a pause. The show magically goes on.

Before getting started all her changes of clothes are placed around the stage where she can quickly make a change without stopping.

Next step is setting up the screen that comes rolled up in a heavy cloth case.

Next step get the video in sink with the story.

Then the volume control; picture, voice and sound.

Enter Amelia Earhart...

One hour later; having changed about 10 times during the performance it was pack up time.

With an amazing ability to keep smiling and answering questions from the audience; you have Sheryl Faye.

September 17th we were happy to hear that Sheryl Faye would be appearing at the Reading Senior Center as Elinor Roosevelt ; one of my favorite characters. So ...Off we went.

You can figure out at this time that we enjoy all her performances plus there is always lunch after someplace.

For this performance Sheryl does her changes, about 10 for this show but also dresses a chair.

She changes coats and hats of all the important men in her show..Her Grandfather, her Father, her Husband and even the incoming president when Franklin Delano Roosevelt passed away. Another interesting part of her show that happens even as she moves about the stage.

On October 19th this day took us to Londonderry N>H> to visit the Aviation Museum of New Hampshire. We were not aware that it was a Halloween dress up for children. Besides the museum we got to see the youngsters in their holiday princes, witches , and scary costumes. Great fun; free candy and free admission for this day. (Usually $5.00)

This is a great small museum with lots of great "stuff". The guides are dressed in the costumes of Charles Lindbergh who gave us the information re: the first solo nonstop flight across the Atlantic Ocean in his plane "the Spirit of St. Louis.

Amelia Earhart.was studying medicine with the Canadian aid Detachment then exploring the airfields around Toronto got the flying bug. She didn't do to bad with her homework. She spike of her transatlantic flight in 1932 becoming the first women to do that.

Jimmy Doolittle was promoting his biography and displaying the plane that he flew during his time in the air.

Eddie Rickenbacker told us he was a race car driver and competed in the Indy 500 and then became a flying ace , receiving the Medal Of Honor in 1930 for the World War one battles.

Alan Shepard , the first American in space aboard Mercury "Freedom7". This flight lasted 15 minutes then became a member of the space ship Mercury.

This museum has models of early planes; and many pictures of the past history of men and woman who were able to take to the air.

It was a fun museum where we learned a lot about planes and the lives of the people that flew them.

Our lunch was at a local Olive Garden that had good food but a new waitress that messed up a few thing.

Al in all it was a beautiful Fall day and we really enjoyed ourselves.

On October 22nd. we paid our final visit to the Continental Restaurant in Saugus. Route 1 North, it was always a place to go for any special occasion.

Many of us attended showers, and weddings, and class reunions. Graduation party's ,and even after a funeral families and friends gathered to pay tribute to a family member or friend to has left this world.It was a special place for special days or evenings.

The heavy doors and leather booths, the walls of polished wood, and the atmosphere of elegance.

After 72 years of memories, pop overs, and bean dips, and just great food and service, we say goodbye to another memory lost to the changing times.

We will end this month on weather changes, winter to come, and many memories to hold on to.
