Please join the Melrose Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition in our 2nd Annual Footprints 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, June 5th at Pine Banks Park in Melrose, MA. This will be the first race in a three-part regional series aiming to raise awareness about substance use disorder (SUD), promote support for recovery, and acknowledge our local police, fire, EMT’s, Melrose-Wakefield Hospital staff, and any first responder or community member who works hard to fight SUD and overdoses every day.

The disease of addiction affects virtually every person in some way, directly or indirectly; no person, no family is immune. It is a disease that does not discriminate and affects people of all race, gender, age, and socioeconomic status. The MA Department of Public Health estimates that there were over 1,100 overdose deaths in the state in 2015. Melrose Ambulance, Fire and Police regularly respond to overdoses and sadly we have lost many residents to opioid overdoses, especially in recent months.
All proceeds raised will benefit the Melrose Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition in order to continue and enhance prevention efforts in the schools and our community implemented over the last twelve years!
