The season of color

Today I took some time to stop at the John J. Round Park in Wakefield.

This is a small park with a children’s play area towards the back. There are colorful blue slides and red ladders to climb and three swings. Towards the front of the park is a basketball court, for older children. This area is enclosed by the stone wall protecting the area from the sidewalk.

There are no children playing now or basketball being tossed around.

It is still except for the sound of the passing cars on Main Street.

A slight breeze moves the gold and green trees about as they reach for the white clouds scattered across the blue sky.

Leaves fall gently to cover the dirt parking area, small driveway and the hills before me.

There are a few trees that will remain green through the winter months but I can, even now, in October, see upwards on the hill where trees are bare; or those that hang helplessly to their colors of the season.

I climbed this hill years ago to see the view of Wakefield and Melrose. Now I enjoy the view looking at the fallen logs and rocks that cover the slope. The fallen leaves lay on the ground turning the color of rust and I am enjoying the view of the season.
