Either bring your own or make sure to get a paper one from the store.

MELROSE, MA — Beginning July 1, six of Melrose's largest retail stores will kick off the plastic bag ordinance. The ordinance was unanimously passerby the Board of Alderman in December in an effort to reduce single-use plastic bags that en dup in the trash or streets.

Melrose is one of more than 60 communities go this route.

On July 1, you'll have to bring your own bag or use a store-supplied recyclable paper bag if you go to Shaw's, Whole Foods, CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid, and Hunt's Photo and Video. Those retail stores are over 8,000 square feet, which is why they are the first to implement.

Other stores will adopt the ordinance in October.
