As my Monday knowledge nugget I wanted to bring back goals. What drives you? What are you working towards? Have you stepped back and evaluated what you have done so far? Appreciate what you have done so far and how amazing your body is- it is an incredible machine. Evaluate what you can improve on and change going forward.
I put my goals out there last month. Now, my end goals are still months away but I do a daily “gut check” on my mini goals. In the past month I have started my Ironman training plan and really have stuck to it 90%. I have dialed in my eating 100% during week days. I really enjoy it too as I feel energetic, ready to take on the world(or my workouts), and have been recovering quickly. On weekends there is still MUCH to be desired. My weekend nutrition is definitely what I will work this month. Now mind you, I am not taking out all of the fun on the weekends but just need to learn how to approach my weekends with moderation. Sometimes, my brain screams, “WAHOOOO, your free! It’s the weekend! Let’s eat like Michael Phelps! Homefries, chips and salsa, ice cream? Sure whats one bowl!” I know that this mentality is not realistic to my goals and I need to reel it in. I am confident I can and will approach the weekends this month with a different attitude and self talk.
So, where am I at? I am feeling confident with my runs and bike. It is strange, but I have been feeling like a runner: light on my feet and “quick.” Take quick with a grain of salt as my quick is not elite speed. I am never going to break records, or even come close. However, by “quick” I mean an 8 minute mile is a comfortable speed. I judge this on whether I can still rock out with my music. Last year, I struggled with speed, so this year I am making it a point to focus on.
The bike, well lets just say I have found a home in the saddle. I rode for 2 and a half hours on my trainer this weekend and kind of felt like I had not done much. I thought I would be bored out of my mind, but I actually enjoyed it. It was … strange! In the month of February I lost a whopping 3 pounds. Not my best work, but what I am proud of is my body composition changed with it. The weight I lost was fat weight and moving in the right direction. I feel approaching my weekends with moderation rather than with the kid in the candy shop mentality will help me speed up the weight loss to approach my goal a little bit quicker.

Where are you at? Remember, no one is perfect. If you just read this you know that I am not perfect. I struggle. However, what I believe will separate you and I from those who miss their goals is the ability to pick ourselves back up, brush ourselves off, and the ability to keep moving forward. Learn from what you have done and build on it to make yourself and those around you better. Be grateful for how far you have come and appreciate how much more you will learn on your journey. Above all: EAT CLEAN, TRAIN MEAN, and believe YOU WILL DO IT.
