A Passion for Soccer

This week's Whiz Kids are a group of soccer lovers.

Patch Whiz Kids of the Week: FC Milford, U14 Soccer Team: Justin Borges, Luis Goncalves, Michael Da Silva, Michael Haver, John Martins, Bruno Alves, Juan Fernando Garcia, Ludwin Escobar, Jonathan Joseph Torres, Thales Guimaraes, Gerson Migliorini (not pictured), Gustavo Marato, Ryan Zwonik

Age, School: 13,

Accomplishment: The boys' passion for soccer pushes them to excel, arriving early and staying late at practice. They took the initiative to put together their own indoor soccer team before they even had a coach. Inspired by their determination, coach Jay Porter agreed to step in, even though he was already coaching another team.

Key to Awesomeness: According to Coach Porter: "They are dedicated to learning and playing a game that is a large part of their heritage and culture. They are fierce competitors and although they push each other to the limits, they are also their to help and encourage their teammates when they come up short." The group of boys, he adds, were "far too many for a six vs. six indoor team, but the boys could not turn away any of their buddies, who they also knew loved the sport and loved to play with each other, so instead they chose to sacrifice playing time so all could enjoy."

Nominated by: Maria Goncalves, who notes: "If they were able to put this together on their own, imagine what they can accomplish as they get older."
