After Rash of Vehicle Break-ins, Milford Police Warns Residents to Take Precautions

Police are reminding residents to not leave valuables in their cars.

From the Milford Police Department:

During recent weeks, we have experienced many breaking and entering complaints into motor vehicles in the Milford Community. These incidents have resulted in the thefts of several GPS units, jewelry, laptops, tools, prescriptions, change, cell phone chargers, speakers and cash.

These events have occurred geographically in neighborhoods throughout the town and most have occurred during the late night to early morning hours under the cover of darkness. Some of the streets include: High Street, West Street, Madden Ave, Congress Terrace, Walker Ave Ext., West Spruce Street, Haven Street, Eben Street, Cedar Street, Caroline Drive, Pearl Street, and Quinlan Ave.

Many of the motor vehicles breaks occurred with vehicles where valuables were left inside the vehicle visible to passersby and in most cases the car doors were left unlocked. Only one recent break into a motor vehicle involved force when a window was broken.

  1. If you hear or see something that you believe is suspicious, follow you gut instinct and call the police right away by dialing 911. Officers will response to check on the situation.
  2. Please lock your doors.
  3. Please do not leave valuables visible to others.
  4. Secure all windows.
  5. Light the outside of your home where you park your vehicles to make visible and unattractive to would be thieves. Outside motion lights can make it more difficult for a burglar.
  6. Don’t keep expensive jewelry, collectables, or large amounts of cash in your motor vehicle. Keep a list of valuables with serial numbers and document them using videotape and or photographs.
  7. Lock you vehicles and keep valuables out of sight thus reducing temptations for thieves.
  8. Park vehicles in visible and well-lit areas.
